Thank you for visiting UndercoverWear.com. Its been 35 amazing years that Id love to share with you, so lets take a journey together back to the beginning of UndercoverWear.
It was 1975 in Massachusetts; I had been married for five years and had an adorable four-year-old son, Jamie. My husband Walter was a professional musician and music teacher. I was in Public Relations, but also consulted on wardrobe & color selections, event planning and just about anything else (legal jobs, only) to make some extra money. In fact, Walter and I got our real estate licenses so we could afford to buy a new home!
We always wanted to own our own business we definitely had entrepreneurial spirits. I had very clear life goals. Even on our honeymoon, while Walter was thinking of other things, I created a lifetime goal book filled with tasks ranging from simply having a wine and cheese picnic to much more elaborate goals like traveling around the world.
Our top mutual goal was making family a top priority. That came with the desire for a better lifestyle and financial security. While we were willing to work hard, we also wanted the flexibility of being our own boss and responsibility for our success. Most importantly, we wanted to set a good example for Jamie.
We started with investing every penny we had into modular homes. We got lots of orders, but unfortunately, the parent company went bankrupt and we lost everything. Failure #1!
Then, we moved onto opening a clothing boutique in Bostons infamous Combat Zone and primarily served exotic dancers. As we gained success, I quit my job to run the store and brought Jamie with me everyday. Boy, he met some interesting women! We decided to expand to multiple stores, Walter quit his job and on August 24, 1974 we became true business owners.
Sadly, on August 25th our store burned to the ground, and we had no insurance. Failure #2!
There we were no store, no jobs and no money, but we always paid our bills on time. So, we headed to New York to meet with our manufacturers to craft Plan B. Six weeks later we opened Tiffanys Undercover Boutique in downtown Boston we were back in the game.
By the fall of 1975, we were building our business and I wanted some brand new clothes. Walter, however, said we didnt have money for that, so I took matters into my own hands. I took some the lingerie out of the store and did my first home party.
Id experienced other boring party plan ideas and I wanted something different. I created a Sensuality Test, named each piece of lingerie Passion, Flower Power, Not Tonight, Ive Got A Headache and more. Instead of coffee and cookies, I served wine and cheese. At the end, Id present my goodie bag of thongs, garter belts and even peek-a-boo bras and undies.
Naturally, the parties were an instant SUCCESS!
Soon, we were ordering lingerie JUST for the parties, I was sending out tons of press about my nighttime job and suddenly I was the rage of the nation! We were featured on Evening Magazine, Oprah, Phil Donahue and Montel Williams just to name a few. Then, there were the hundreds of radio, newspaper and magazine interviews. UndercoverWear swept across North America we were everywhere. (Here's a little known secret other industry professionals have discovered a passion for romance parties after witnessing UndercoverWears success.)
Walter was always at the helm of UndercoverWears growth and finances weve considered him the head of the company. As for me, Ive always set out to be the heart of UndercoverWear with the primary goal of empowering woman to enjoy a flexible, fun and financially rewarding life.
Our growth was and continues to be unheard of in the industry. And as always, we are ahead of our time! This is where our journey takes us to today.
UndercoverWear is now in the capable hands of our son Jamie. His strong educational background combined with incredible instincts, growing up with the business and a genuine love for UndercoverWear makes him the perfect leader. His vision for UndercoverWear has changed the face of this industry there is no other company that offers you these opportunities.
Jamie has said it best, "Were getting back to being the company we once were and always wanted to be. Were the company that embraces the many facets of being a woman (a wife, mother, daughter and professional)."
